Islandifera looks beyond our shores to discover the many fascinating (and often familiar) facets of life on islands far from our own.
(via) A videographer recently explored Nagatani Village in central Japan. The abandoned hamlet was once home to about 70 people. Residents started to leave Nagatani in the 1960s when they were told a dam project was going to be built nearly. The people never returned even though the dam’s construction was called off, leaving nature to do its thing. The absence of graffiti is pretty striking!
